“Thanks Mom & Dad” to Honor Sen. Isakson
(ATLANTA - May 22, 2008) Senator Johnny Isakson is this year’s guest of honor at the annual Thanks Mom & Dad Celebration, scheduled for Friday, June 20, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in downtown Atlanta. The senator and his wife Diane will be joined by their children, John, Kevin and Julie, as the fund honors parents, grandparents and mentors for their support and inspiration and raises awareness of the needs of older adults.
The Thanks Mom & Dad Fund® works to improve the quality of life for older adults and honor the contributions older generations make to our lives and communities. Through its grants, the fund seeks to encourage innovation and increase services for older adults in Georgia, such as meals-on-wheels, adult day care and transportation services.
Senator Isakson has had a distinguished career in business and public service for more than 30 years. Joining the company in 1967, he built Northside Realty into the largest independent residential real estate brokerage company in the Southeast and one of the largest in America. He served 17 years in the Georgia Legislature and three years as chairman of the Georgia Board of Education. In 1999, Johnny was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the first of three terms before being elected to the United States Senate in November of 2004. In Congress, he has worked to enhance and maintain Georgia's roads, while also working for mass transit alternatives to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
In addition to dinner, the evening will feature a silent auction. A few of the many items up for bid include a six-day stay at Zulu Nyala, a South African photo safari lodge; the use of a Mercedes-Benz for a weekend, baseballs signed by long-time Atlanta Braves and Hall-of-Famers Phil Niekro and Tom Glavine..

The annual celebration is the fund's principal fundraiser. Proceeds from this event, along with gifts from individual and corporate donors, are the main sources of funding for the fund's unrestricted gifts.
